American Journal of Nursing (AJN) is the world’s oldest and most widely spread nursing journal. It contains all-inclusive set of guidelines that assist nurses to keep themselves updated on the advances in medicine and nursing as a profession. The best thing about this journal is that the matter is presented in a vivid manner in combination with photographs, which makes it interesting to read. It features hands-on and empirical articles on clinical field covering all relevant topics. This includes information on medicines, nursing trends, legal issues, and others.

The articles contained in American Journal of Nursing are on health promotion as well as disease prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, home health care, critical care, emergencies, and more. Salient Features


For the last six years, American Journal of Nursing has published series that have won awards. In 2002, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation had offered a grant to AJN for publishing a 16-part series on the topic palliative nursing. In 2004, Gerontological Society of America had received a grant from Atlantic Philanthropies to collaborate with AJN in order to publish a 15-part video as well as print series on geriatric nursing under the title, “A New Look at the Old.” In 2005, the National Kidney Foundation gave a grant to the journal for publishing a series of articles on nursing management for chronic kidney disease patients.
In 2007, the journal introduced a sequence of articles as well as videos on best practice approaches and assessment tools that are used to look after older patients. The articles were presented under the title “How to Try This.” They were offered in collaboration with Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing of New York University. They were funded partly by John A. Hartford Foundation.
