Nurse Uniforms

Nurse Costumes And Uniforms

The nursing sector has a long history, and in the earlier days there were nothing like nurse costumes and uniforms. There was no specific uniform for the nurses. The need of a specific uniform for the nurses arose only during the Crimean war when Florence Nightingale, the founder of the modern concept of nursing, introduced dark-gray uniforms for nurses. These uniforms were full-length dresses covered by white aprons. However, the modern costumes and uniforms of nurses are much different from the earlier versions. These days, the uniforms come in many styles and they are designed specifically keeping in mind the safety and security of patients. Nurse costumes and uniforms play an important role in maintaining the dedication and discipline in a hospital or health care organization.

White Dresses And Hose

The full-length dark-gray uniforms with white aprons did not run for long. Soon, they were replaced with white dresses and hose. However, they could also not make much impact. The nursing professionals found it very uncomfortable to work while wearing this sort of dress. Soon, these impractical nurse costumes and uniforms were also out of the market.

White Tunics And Pants

The white dresses and hose were replaced with white tunics and pants. These dresses were more comfortable to wear. The earlier dresses were not very comfortaNurse ble to move around. The improved comfort level of the tunics and pants made it a good success.

Colored Uniforms And Scrubs

However, the modern nurse costumes and uniforms are more stylish and comfortable both for the nurses as well as for the patients. The colored uniforms and nurse scrubs are most popular now, as they are highly convenient. The colorful dresses make dirt or stains undetectable.

Colored vs. White Uniforms

Whether the nurse costumes and uniforms should be colored or white has always been a debatable issue. The colored dresses for nurses have got more critics, as because of no specific color for the nurses’ dress, it sometimes become very difficult for the patients and the public to pick out nurses from rest of the hospital staff. That is the reason why the majority now prefers white uniforms for nurses. However, these white uniforms have also got designer flair for style and comfort. The great thing about the white dress for nurses is that patients get a secure feel. At the same time, even the nurses prefer to wear white uniforms, as they are comfortable as well as stylish.

Overall, no matter which type of nursing uniforms a hospital prefers, they always keep in mind that the dress must be designed in a way that could make it easy for others to easily recognize the nurses from the rest of the crowd. What is more, the nurse costumes and uniforms must also give a sense of pride to the nurses so that they could feel better and comfortable while working. Most importantly, regardless of the design or color being used, nurse uniforms must show dedication and discipline.
